Andrew WilliamsWinner – EducationAndrew Williams, known as Uncle D, has all the qualities of a perfectly dedicated school volunteer: always respectful, patient and supportive of students’ and teachers’ efforts. Having volunteered at Churchill Public School in Willowdale for the past 10 years, Williams is generous with his time, reliable, kind and funny. He is a great artist, a great singer, and has many interests he shares with students and staff. The entire Churchill school community benefits from Uncle D’s tireless dedication and appreciates the role he plays as artist in residence. Through artistic expression, the lifelong North York resident is able to connect with all students despite barriers in language or behaviour. Williams also volunteers in all aspects of the school day, including field trips. He conducts sketching and cartooning workshops, creates murals for the school’s building, and is involved in school’s dramatic productions – making a positive impact in many areas of school life. |
